Chocolate Malt Whey Protein,
I have been a user of Optimum Nutrition’s protein powders for many years. They usually have a good flavor, and mix well. I used to really like the dutch chocolate flavor of their “pro complex” formulation, since the early 90′s or so.
Well, lately have been trying some new flavors to see how it goes, you get tired of just chocolate and vanilla. Well, just tried this Chocolate Malt, it is good! It tastes like the Whoppers candy does. Good taste, and not aftertaste.
Also very good is the extreme milk chocolate. I like these 2 chocolates better than the “double rich” chocolate, maybe am just getting tired of that one after several years.
Cookies and cream sounds good but is not. Good at first, but odd aftertaste. Same thing with Rocky Road, I just didn’t like the taste.
Vanilla ice cream is very good. I like to add protein to some milk and take it with me in my lunch. Also good is the “Cake Batter” – funny name, but tastes good.
My wife says the Caramel Toffee is a good choice too, it smells very good at least.
The strawberry I’ve tried in the past, that was a good flavor too. Have not tried banana, coconut, etc.
So in summary there are some good flavors Optimum makes, and it is cheaper to order online vs. the retail store. Oh yes – and get a good shaker or too. My favorite is the smaller sized (16 oz?) “Blenderbottle” – it is sturdy, mixes things smoothly, and is easy to wash out. And here on Amazon it is around $6. Order a couple so you have a backup. Also great to take when you travel. Also like the Tupperware shaker bottle, that is around $10.
So I hope this is helpful info to the reader. My newer policy is to try a new flavor in as small a container as you can order. Then if it is crap, you can try to give it away, or throw it away, and you are not out so much $$.

|Some Good, Some Bad, and But Not Ugly…,
I like this product. Let me first start by saying that I do not think this is “the BEST” protein product ever. However, I’ve tried many protein products and this comes rather close.
In my honest opinion, “the BEST” protein product out there would have to be “Profect” by Protica Research. It’s actually the stuff used by gastric bypass patients. It’s 25 grams of high-absorb protein in only 2.7 fluid oz that literally tastes like fruit candy. But, it’s way too expensive and a two-months supply can set you back a couple of hundred bucks easily. Because of this, it’s better suited strictly toward its medical purposes.
This product is also not the “most cost-effective”. There are plenty of other whey products out there that are much much cheaper and have just as much protein content, but they all pretty much taste like doo doo. What’s the point in torturing yourself to save a few bucks? Cost is definitely an important factor, but not the most important.
Apart from all of the hype and apart from all of the hate, I would say that I really do like this product. It tasted a bit gross with just plain water, but when I added it to a cup of enriched soymilk, I couldn’t tell the difference between it and a regular kid’s chocolate milk shake. That is amazing. And this product did mix pretty well. I usually have problems with that when it comes to powdered shakes and it’s always great when you can get a shake that doesn’t just sit on the bottom of the cup and cement while everything else just floats to the top. I even added a serving of Benefiber fiber supplement, and it still didn’t clump up.
One problem that I have with this product is that it does use artificial sweeteners, but I’ll let that slide for now, since I don’t intake too many products with them anyway. Still, it is a cause for concern for those you who want to avoid such things in your diet entirely.
Overall, 4 of of 5 stars. I’m pleased but not impressed. This product is definitely one of the superior brands out there but most definitely not a “gold standard”. A lot could be done to improve it.

|good flavor and texture, very high protein with little else,
This and MetRX’s protein powders are my favorites, though when Amazon has this brand in stock it’s less expensive per serving than MetRX. The MetRX foams up a bit more and seems a little thicker (not negatives, in my opinion); the TwinLab comes out very smooth when made in a blender. Both brands taste very good, at least when made with fat free or 1% milk (or at the very least half milk and half water).
I won’t detail the nutritional info because it’s available in the product description here, but like MetRX I like that this protein powder gets almost all of its calories from protein. Some protein powders have a fair amount of fat and some have A LOT of carbohydrates. Those formulas may be good for competition level bodybuilders who need to have an extremely high caloric intake because they are working out so hard, but I don’t really want a protein shake that gives me a meal’s worth of carbs and fat in addition to the protein. I’d rather get my carbs and fat from real food.

I’m just a normal person. Not a jock or body builder. Not even extremely active because of physical disabilities. However I swear by this product. I drink it for breakfast and mid-afternoon snack just about every day. The taste is wonderful with skim milk or water – your choice. I even take it with me when I travel overseas to minister. It’s a great meal replacement filled with good protein; great-tasting; quick to fix; and keeps me feeling satisfied. And at this price it cannot be beat. My son went through a lifestyle change about 7 months ago. Changed his eating habits and exercise schedule. Has dropped 95 lbs. Part of his success was this protein powder. He drinks it twice a day and eats sensible small portion meals. The weight loss did great things for his health and self-image. He feels so good about himself – he can conquer the world! We are repeat customers and will continue to purchase this particular item from this seller as long as it’s available.

|Great tasting protein power with one issue.,
This is a great tasting protein, and believe me I have tasted so many brands it not funny. The only issue I noticed with this protein as compare to a tub of Optimum Nutrition is that the serving size is HUGE! The Optimum nutrition scoop is half the size of the Twin Lab scoop. I compared the nutrient facts and Twin lab has 3 more grams of carb and an extra gram of fat. Nevertheless, the scoope is twice the size. Optimum Nutrition is definitely higher quality, but Twin Lab tastes better.

|Great Taste, Digestibility, and Quality,
I have worked in a nutrition store and have tried dozens if not hundreds of different proteins. This one has been the best and doesn’t have any of the artificial sweetners and other ingredients which can cause digestion problems. It mixes easily and has a very versatile and enjoyable taste. It is probably best as a postworkout or early morning protein source due to its rapid digestion. I will often take along with some fish oils or flax oil to lower the glycemic index and resulting insulin response. Amazon, especially with free shipping and 15% subscription discount, has by far the best price!

|Best protein powder,
I’m a woman and not a body builder, but I love this protein powder for a super quick breakfast or an evening snack. It gives you clean burning energy, so to speak, without the blood sugar crash of candy bars or other less than optimal snack products. It dissolves well with some vigorous shaking in any sealed container–I just use an ordinary bowl-shaped tupperware container.
It contains no fructose, and is barely sweetened with stevia extract. That’s fine because I can add my own sources of sweetness in the form of organic soy milk that I buy in bulk from Costco. I had my family try it and they couldn’t tell this apart from ordinary ovaltine or chocolate soy milk. Even if you’re using water or milk, unless you’re hyper vigilant about sugar intake, adding a bit of your own sweetener (I hate artificial sweeteners, I’d rather add raw, real sugar) would still bring your sugar intake far below most of those other “protein shake” products out in the market while still delivering a dose of high quality protein (whey is superior to all other sources of popularly available protein powders according to the sources I’ve researched).
